SSR 2013 virual conversion to Esxi 5x issue
Created: 20 Mar 2013 | 8 comments
All,
I just converted a backup image from an SBS 2003 (made with SSR 2011) with SSR 2013 to an esxi 5 server.
The conversion went successful but the converted server does not show up in in the esx inventory... The VM does show in the datastore. I tried to add the server to the inventory but the key (right-click) is grayed out.
Any advise is welcome.
Greetings,
Mike

Are you using a supported version of ESXi5 --> http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag... ?

Markus,
Thanks for your support. I'm using ESXi 5.0, it's supported.
One workaround would be to create the VM and use the SRD to restore the system --> https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/p2v...
Does this match: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/vm-...

SSR wont create the actual VM. We just create the virtual disks (VMDKs). You have to manually create the VM yourself using the VMDKs that we converted by SSR.
Hope this helps.

Mike,
No problem. Let us know how things go tonight then...

Markus,
Sorry for the delay in answereing this thread..
Doing some construction at home and it prio ;-)
Anyway, I tried booting the the VMDK after creating the VM. Server got stuck before mini Windows setup and then reboots. I only get th enew Win logo, not even the full interfact form SSR2013 (when migrating to new HW).
I did not investigate further tough.
Greets,
Mike
