SSR2011just scans disks and does not start without reboot

I have SSR2011 installed on a WIN7Ult 64 Bit machine. If I had it my way I would only reboot this machine maybe once per week. Lately I have had to boot it just so that SSR would start up properly.

The other day I performed the reboot and then the incremental backup for the D: drive started and completed. Today the C: drive is scheduled and I passed my mouse over the SSR icon in the System Tray and it said that it was scanning drives. It stayed scanning drives for over an hour and then I attempted to stop the Symantec System Recovery Service and it would not stop. I ended up rebooting and then all was working properly.

I want to know how I can stop the program from running any task and then start it up again all without rebooting. All of the hard drives (internal and USB connected externals) are working properly.

You could simply kill it:

You could simply kill it: taskkill /im vprosvc.exe /f

OK, It's starting to backup but...

It has stayed on 1% for the longest time. I will tell you in the morning if it was successful or not. The source is a 2 TB drive with 970 GB free from 1.81 TB and the Target is also a 2 TB drive (External USB) with 1.05 free from 1.81. I have the job doing "High" compression.

I still had to reboot prior to getting the backup to start

Even though it started last night it never went passed the 1% mark. I had to reboot before it would (very quickly) go by 1% and get to 5%. I continued watching the backup until it got passed the 8% mark. It is still going now. (I'm happy that I have more than one machine)

As I originally stated: I wish that I did not have to reboot every time that I wanted to run a successful backup. It used to work fine with SSR2010.

Are there any other suggestions?
