  • 1.  Stand Alone Ghost System?

I have a Win7 machine running GhostCast server attached to a switch.  I have another machine attached to the switch that need Win7 image from the server.  There is nothing else attached to this switch.  Is it possible to run the ghostcast this way, or do I need more hardware/software.  This will be a stand-alone system for the sole purpose of ghosting to and from the server.

Since you will be unicasting, I can see no real issue here.

For single machine imaging, you may also find it simpler and quicker to make a WinPE bootable usb hard disk and run Ghost32.exe from there. Takes up a lot less room than a dedicated environment.

I'm sorry, I should have included more info.  This setup is just to get things working.  In the future, i will be deploying images to 15 to 20 systems at a time.  I'm wondering now if Altirus would be a better program to use.

I assume you mean Altiris DS, which includes Ghost as an imaging solution. Yes, that is certainly an alternative, and is more recently updated.

If you plan to image 15-20 systems at a time, then you will need to make sure you have IGMP snooping enabled on your switches otherwise multicasting will fail after 3-4 minutes.
