Storage Lifecycle Policy Retention
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 1 comment
This issue has been solved. See solution.
I have a storage lifecycle policy with 2 storage destinations:
- Backup - StorageUnit1 - Fixed Retention - 2 Months
- Duplication - StorageUnit2 - Fixed Retention - 2 months
We plan to use this SLP to write images to a primary disk storage unit, then duplicate those images to a secondary storage unit offsite. The goal is to hold those images on disk for 2 months. My policy is tied to this SLP on the attributes tab of the change policy screen, however my schedules show a retention of 2 weeks (level 1). I am not able to change the 2 week retention because that part is greyed out on the change schedule screen.
My question is which retention will win out? The 2 months defined by my SLP or the unmodifiable 2 week retention that shows up when viewing my schedules?
Thanks,
Layne

The SLP retention is the active one.
There is no transfer of retension between a schedule and SLP. So it''s the retension defined by the SLP that's active.
If a option is grayed out in the GUI, it means it "not active" and the value displayed is can not be trusted.
Assumption is the mother of all mess ups.
