I  am deploying CMS 7.1/Patch 7.1 SP1.  I have not turned my patch polices on yet, but I am receiving reports of "STPatchAssessmentSrv.exe" pegging the processor.  I have  looked at the assessment run history on the client at the time reported, and the exit code is returned as 0.  Where would I find logs to let me see more specificaly what is occuring?

The assessment is running properly and succeeding, thus returning an exit code of 0. I assume you have the Windows System Scan Assessment policy enabled, and running on a certain scheduled?  The only thing you might want to do is consider an off-hours schedule for the assessment scan on your clients.

this is scheduled Windows System Assessment Scan that evaluates vulnerability of your environment - Patch Management solution reports are based on its results. Frequency of this scan (every 4 hours by default) is controlled by "check every" setting in Windows System Assessment Scan policy (Home > Patch Management > Windows > System Assessment Scan > Run System Assessment Scan).

I went to Settings, All Settings, Software, Patch management, Windows System Assessment Scan and set it to run every 23 hours.  I can see that changed on the client, but the logs are still showing the AexPatchAssessment.exe every 30 minutes.  I obviously do not have this scedule setup correctly!  I have the start at 0 and end at 0 with duration at 24, with during window, check every 23 hours.  So I thought that would make is once a day.  Can someone help me set this screen up properly?  I changed it to Start 2am, End 5am, During Window, check every 89 minutes.  Would this set it to run between 2 adn 5am and possibly run twice?

If I have made above change, ran resource membership update and updated local client, is that all I need for new schedule to start?  Or do I need to restart aexnclient service?

You don't need to restart the client or any services, just the policy update on the client side.

And if you want to run the schedule daily, I recommend to use "Schedule time" instead of "Schedule Window". Just delete all schedules in the policy "Windows System Assessment Scan", then add "Schedule time", select the desired time and set repetition to "Daily".

Then either wait for the next scheduled policy update on the client, or force it manually either from the client side or via the standard task "Update Client Configuration".
