  • 1.  SUM hanging on restore

    I am running SUMWizard, and it is hanging during the restore. The progress bar says restoring Outlook and it just hangs there forever if you leave it. The logs show several errors during the restore but nothing that points to anything specific that I notice.
    The last log entry is:
     
    [21-09-07:11:03:48:357]Error:       **** Calculating folder size 0 (KB)
     
     
    I can supply logs if anyone can take a look. If there is anything on our computers that will break SUM I want to know what it is and work around if possible.

    Hi Chris

    I've dropped a message in your private forum box, with an upload location.

    To get some idea of what is occurring here, I'll need to get advanced logs for that operation. Advanced logging is enabled by default for Ghost Console User Migration operations, but for wizard operations we'll need to enable that specifically.

    Advanced logging can be enabled by adding some options to the XML template, but in this instance, the easiest thing to do is apply the following value to the registry prior to the restore operation:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Symantec User Migration\Log]
    "Debug"=dword:00000001
    "Level"=dword:0000ffff

    Separately, I thought I would also make a note here about the user migration logs in general. In the default wizard logging mode there are quite a few entries that start with "error". This is misleading really. There are quite a few operations which will cause "error" to be written to the log as part of the normal migration process, even though nothing out of the ordinary has occurred. This is probably less than ideal.

    I'm having a few problems investigating this, mainly due to the unusually large size of one of the files used in diagnosis. So, to cut down that size a bit,
     
    Can I ask you to repeat the restore operation (again to a clean machine after running the reg file) but restore only the Outlook application from the package, and provide the same files for that operation.
     
    If for some reason this approach succeeds, could you then repeat the restore (again to a clean machine after running the reg file), with only the Outlook application selected for restore, but this time restore the user files as well.
     
    Separately, I note there are a large number of backups of the outllook profile contained in the package. I would not expect this to cause a problem in itself, but I would like to understand more about those. The large number is unusual.
