SUM issues

I am having an issue with SUM (GSS2.0).

I have rules in my template to include C:\*.xls excluding subfolders, I have the same rule set up for C:\*.doc and C:\*.pdf, with the same exclude subfolders box checked. For some reason, I am capturing ALL .docs, .xls, and .pdf's on the C: drive instead of excluding subfolders.

Another issue I have come across:

In my Windows XP image I have a shortcut on all USers Desktop for Outlook with the target: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" /importprf C:\WINDOWS\Outlook_2003_desktop.PRF

The shortcut imports the PRF I have preconfigured to configure each users Outlook settings..

So anyway, my two test machines have the same exact image on them. I run the capture on the first machine to restore on the second, when I restore the settings, my Outlook shortcut gets overwritten with a generic Outlook shortcut and i lose the /importprf switch at the end.

My two test machines have the exact same shortcut on the desktop so I am not sure why the shortcut is being overwritten or changed..

I can provide template files and restore logs if anyone would like to look at them.

    Thank you

    Hi Chris,

I would like to have a look at your issues. I assume you are running the user migration as a console task.
For both the issues mentioned can you please send the capture & restore logs to nimi dot rose at gmail dot com.

To gather the logs please check out the last post by Xan Todd in this forum thread - https://forums.symantec.com/syment/board/message?board.id=109&message.id=820#M820

    Regards,
    Nimi

Actually Nimi, I am not using the Ghost Console in my environment. I am running SUM through a share on a server. I did create the template in the console, but I exported it to use in my file share.

I will send you the logs, thanks for the reply.

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for explaining your scenario & uploading the logs.

The issue with file inclusion was identified and we do have a fix for that.
The second issue, about the missing parameters for the restored shortcut links, was not catered for but this enchacement too has be included in the patch.

    Regards,
    Nimi

Ok, I have done some more testing and the first issues seem to be resolved. I have a couple other questions though.

Shortcuts files/folders on the network. I brought this up on here before and it was confirmed that unresolved shortcuts will not be restored for a user. For instance each user has a home drive (H:\) on a server and if they have a shortcut to a file on H:\.... it will not resolve if you perform the restore as say the local administrator. I understand why but is there a way to have those unresolved shortcuts in the "recovered files" folder that I see sometimes for files that cannot be restored for one reason or another? My users are heavy into the network shortcuts and it is very important that I restore those.

Also, I have my template set up with each rule and whether or not to backup files when replacing, but when you run the restore from the wizard, it still prompts you whether to replace files or not. I am trying to get this set up for other techs to use and not have to make a lot of decisions when running the migrations, that way we maintain as much consistency as possible.

I am also seeing a problem where wallpaper is not being restored but I want to test that further.

    Hi Chris,

At the moment there is no way to skip shortcut resolution and if resolution fails then shortcut is not restored. In the shortly upcoming service pack release and Live Update there will be a way to control this feature from the registry setting on the client machine. Key will be documented in readme and in KB.

    Cheers. Eugene.

Forgot to answer your second question Chris.

The only way to turn off prompting for file replace dialog is to run Sumwizard in scripting mode with "/silent" parameter. In this mode (just like in migration from Ghost console mode) there is no external feedback. Command line will look something like the following:

    sumwizard /action:restore /pkg:test.ump /silent.

This option might well suite you since it looks like you are trying to automate migrations by running wizard from the network share.

    Cheers. Eugene.

Thanks for your reply Eugene. Sripting is an option that I have been testing but I did like the abbillity to browse to the package path through gui mode or ADD aditional files, and select which profiles to migrate. Neither way seems to suit me perfectly yet but I am still testing.

One thing to add to the wishlist, a button to DESELECT all profiles in gui mode when it scans for profiles on the machine. The web version had this button I believe but the new version does not. I might have 30 profiles on a computer but I only want to migrate 2 so I have to uncheck 28 profiles.

    Hi Chris

Confirming the live update planned for release later today will address the shortcut parameters issue you identified.

Separately, I've added your request for a select/deselect all button to the wishlist for the next release.

    Thanks,
    Xan

Also noting the same live update changes functionality to allow restore of shortcuts to files and directories hosted on mapped network drives and unc paths.
