Superseding jobs

Hello all

I have Backup Exec 2012 SP1a.

I am having issues with my month end backups. The month end backups are scheduled to run on the last day of the month. We also have 5 weekly full jobs, These are scheduled to run on 1st Friday of the month, 2nd Friday of the month, etc, etc.

On some servers the month end job runs and supersedes the 5th Friday job, this is normal behavior. On other servers the opposite happens, the 5th Friday full supersedes the monthly backup.

I have tried re creating the jobs on these servers using the template from other known good servers and they still run wrong. I have found this thread that indicates that internal logic should make the least scheduled one supersede the others, but this is not the case.

I called tech support and after troubleshooting I was informed that I should split out the jobs and create the monthly job and assign it a higher priority. While this will work, it will cause both jobs to run eventually there by duplicating the backups. I don't think this is a proper solution but tech support were adamant that this is the solution.

Does anyone else have any input on this issue?

Does the monthly and weekly jobs start at EXACTLY the same time?  This is the criterion for the superceeding.

Hello PKH, yes they both start at exactly the same time. 9pm.

Do you have  a separate job for 5th Fiday or do you have one job that runs on every Friday for your weekly jobs?

If you have a separate job this will be the cause.

REASON (suspected):

The hidden rules look at the frequency of the repeat for the job with least frequent job running. If you have a specific 5th Friday job and there are 5 Fridays in two consecutive months that I suspect the monthly job will run. If you however have 5 Fridays in a month but the next 5tfh Friday is more than a month away than I suspect the monthly job might run. This sequence will also be affected by the number of days in a month as well which will affect the frequency calculation.
