Are their any plans do fully support Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Including Auto-Protect)?

As of 12.04.2, Ubuntu will by default use the LTS Hardware enabled stack - which introduces newer kernels to the LTS release.

I can't speak for Symantec plans but have you tried manually compiling?

Yes, I've compiled the modules by hand.
This procedure works fair enough (The modules cannot be unloaded due to the naming scheme - but Auto-Protect can still be disabled using the command-line... I can live with that workaround.)

My main issue is that I have no guarantee this procedure will continue to work, as the Ubuntu Hardware Stack will push in updates for the kernel (And using newer versions of the kernel)

A 2nd isue, is that I have to install development packages to compile the modules, which I honestly do not like during on all the servers I would like to have protected.

All in all, I'm unsure if Symantec is mature enough on the Ubuntu platform, to be used in a production enviromnent!

    Hi Glenn Sommer,

There are no short-term plans to change the current release of SAV for Linux (MR14). Development work is going into the forthcoming managed SEP for Linux client that is on the roadmap for 2014.

I have been using SAVFL on my Ubuntu boxes for several years.  There is a need to compile your own AP module and there are a few known issues, but it does a decent job.
