SuSe 11 - Device Name : "-"

I'm wondering if anyone has run across this issue?  What happens is that I get limitations and no drive path when I try to scan for devices on my SuSe media server.  The master server is Solaris 10 (SPARC).  Devices are showing up fine on all my media servers, except my SuSe Enterprise Linux 11 server.  When I issue a "scan" command on the SuSe server, the "Device Name" returns "-" as the output.  This seems to be the problem.  Here's an example of what I'm seeing.

Device Name  : "-"
Passthru Name: "/dev/sg3"
Volume Header: ""
Port: -1; Bus: -1; Target: -1; LUN: -1
Inquiry    : "STK     T9840B          127"
Vendor ID  : "STK     "
Product ID : "T9840B          "
Product Rev: "127"
Serial Number: "8AD4B5F30030"
WWN          : ""
WWN Id Type  : 0
Device Identifier: ""
Device Type    : SDT_TAPE
NetBackup Drive Type: 3
Removable      : Yes
Device Supports: SCSI-3
Flags : 0x0
Reason: 0x10000

If anyone has any ideas, I'd greatly appreciate it if you could let me know.

Thanks!

I don't think we support SUSE11 as a server... yet

Unfortunately, SUSE 11 support as a server doesn't start until 6.5.5.  See pages 38-39 of the compatibility matrix:

NetBackup (tm) 6.x Operating System Compatibility List (Updated November 6 2009)
 http://support.veritas.com/docs/325328

(Client support began from 6.5.4.)

You'll want to apply 6.5.5 and try again!  (It's not out just yet but I believe First Availability is ongoing...)

Really, really not sure of its relevance,

especially after Chris's comments, but just came across the following T/N in the Digest.

Running the scan -tape command shows Device Names as "-" and displays no st devices

Thank you both for the

Thank you both for the information.  We'll hold off until the release of 6.5.5.
