  • 1.  SWG virtual ed. - What to do unused network cards?

    Posted Mar 01, 2012 07:45 AM

    Dear All,

I'd like to ask what to do with unused network cards at SWG virtual edition in ESXI. E.g. if we'd like to deploy in proxy mode, we'll need adapter 1 and 3. ESXI requires to add all network cards to a network so should I create "fake" networks and connect adapter 2 and 4 there or should I delete these cards?

    Thanks in advance!

    Viktor

Do not network interfaces. You can cerate virtual switches that do not connect to anything if you would like.

I've deployed SWG from the official ovf template. All the "hardvares" are integrated into it such as HDD, Memory/CPU settings, Network Adapter 1-4...etc

I need to connect these adapters to virtual swithces, that's clear. Btw what's about the Network adapter 2 and 4 (WAN and MON adapters), cause these are unusable. Need I create 2 fake virtual switches for them too? Or I can connect them anywhere? Or can I just delete these adapters?

Do not network adapters. The product implementation guide indicates each should be attached to its own virtual switch. You may be able to connect them to another virt switch with out issue.

I don't really think it matters, if not using them I would normally still try to assign to a virtual switch with a name that identifies which interface it's connected to just so it's clear to me.  If I don't have enough physical interfaces for the adapters that I'm not using I normally just assign them to one of the existing virtual switches but make sure I have unchecked the option in the virtual machine to 'Connect at power on'. You need to be careful with this though, if you change the mode of the SWG these adapters will need to be enabled and assigned their own virtual switch to work properly.

    Cheers,

    Kevin
