SWV 6.1 vs. Total Commander
Hello,
I captured TC into layer. The application itself work fine. The only trouble I have is system base file/folder management.
For example: I create 'C:\test' folder in TC. After layer reset the folder's gone.
Another example: I delete any folder in system. again After layer reset the folder is back.
And this is ok, this is how the layer works.
But in this case I want the TC actions apply to OS base not to the layer. I want only keep the TC installation files in the layer in case they get corrupted I can reset.
I tried to add '.*' to the exclusion list but it does not work for me.
I have added the whole drive including subfolders, but this solution does not satisfy me, I use virtual CDs, external usb drives etc and I am unable to foresee which letter will be assigned to the given drive. Also such exclusion limits the application portability.
Is there any other solution to achieve this goal, does it make sense at all to put file manager into layer?
regards
Tomasz

I'm not a plugger, but...
I also own TC, and that is one of the apps that I don't virtualize, but you did so here is a small solution to make this easier:
I won't post a link here, I don't know how happy Symantec is with this, just search on Google for: Easy Excluder (SWV Edition)

Data Layer
Hi TomasZ,
Try using a data layer. These went out of vogue when we introduced global exclusions, but this might be a good use case. I am mobile right now so I haven't tested it, but I thought about this when I read your post.
Hope it helps.

Excludes don't accept wild
Excludes don't accept wild cards, just thought I'd point that out.
I think Frank's suggestion on not even virtualizing something like this might be best.
@Frank. I don't care if you point to your own tools.

You don't need to virtualize
You don't need to virtualize TC, it is portable by default, you can copy the TC directory anywhere you want and use it that way. I have been using TC for many years w/o problems.
TC and SWV
When you use TC Virtualised you only have to add the global Exclusions.
De-activate the layer
Then do right click properties
Go to global exclusions.
add c:\ and maybe d:\ to the global exclusions.
then the folders will stay.
Dont do this on SWV itselfe, but inside the layer.
Hope this helps

Thank you for all replies.
Having a thought about it I decided to not put TC into layer.
