SWV - Adobe CS3 FlexNET Service keeps disapearing on reboot.

Hi there,

Got a problem with Adobe CS3.  The Adobe FlexNET service that is needed for licensing of the product seems to disapear when you reboot the PC.  If you reset the layer, it appears back ok again and CS3 works fine.  Without it it moans about licensing issues and won't start.  Any ideas what I've done wrong with the layer?  I'm sure it's something easy.

Regards

Leonard

Have your tried

using the NET START (service name) on the event OnActivate? SWV usually handles services it'self, but I've found sometimes they need to be "kick-started"? If it is already started, all you get is an error in the cmd box that pop's, but if you use the /c switch it should be all right (don't be tempted to use > NUL as this causes errors)

Just my tuppence

Cheers
Phil

Thanks Phil, Not quite the

Thanks Phil,

Not quite the problem I'm getting.  The service does start when you import and activate.  But when you reboot the PC, it has disapeared from the list of services.  So it's just not there to restart.  A reset of the layer brings it back.

That's unusual

Have you had a look in the registry (of the RO layer) to see if the entries are still there? If not then something is removing them, or they are being ignored....
If the registry keys are present, I'd still give it a kick start to see if that helps...

Cheers
Phil

We're having FlexNET issues as well

We built new packages for Acrobat Pro 8 and Photoshop CS3 and are having FlexNET issues as well. However, we're still on SVS 2.1.3071

have to ask, are you flagging the layer as active on system startup?

If a forum post solves your problem please flag is as the solution

Hello everyone, I'm having

Hello everyone,

I'm having exactly the same problem.
I'm trying to package Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0 and the FlexNet service is not there at all after reboot or doesn't start, resulting in an error message when you try to run Acrobat.

I spent most of the last 2 days trying to solve that problem every way I could think of.

I use SWV 6.1.5104 and yes, the autostart flag is set.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Same issue on Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0

Hi Code7R,

I also built a layer for Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0 and see the same issue now. The FLEXnet Licensing Service disappears sometimes (in my case the reboot isn't the trigger - it happens suddenly sometimes later). We are using SWV version 6.1.5114 together with Windows 7 32Bit Enterprise English.and SEP 11 MR6.

Of course I could try to implement workarounds and take out this service from the layer, but this would contradict the layer idea and the advantages we want to achieve while we use this technic.

So is there already any official comment from Symantec / Altiris on this issue? It seems that it is not limited to Adobe. We have also problems with other applications (Lotus Notes) where included services suddenly disappear...

Thanks

I don't know what's causing

I don't know what's causing this but I'd do two things:

1) contact support so they can look into and file a ticket

2) I do know that removing licensing services from the layer and placing them in the base has resolved this issue for other people (with Adobe and Autocad).

Our solution was finally

Our solution was finally to remove the Flexnet service and required files from the layer and to add it natively to the System....
