SWV IE6 on Win7 x86 or x64

Created: 28 May 2014 | 2 comments

I'm trying to run IE6 on Win7 SP1 x64 machine.

First, I have created IE6 layer on Windows XP SP3 (+ latest patchs):

  • install SWV 7.5.522
  • install SwvldfSetup.msi
  • download ie6-win7-1.0.113.0.zip

I have downloaded the following files and moved to %userprofile%local settings\temp\downloads folder:

  • IE_S1.CAB
  • WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe
  • WindowsXP-KB976325-x86-ENU.exe

First issue, ie6-win7-1.0.113.0.exe failed because it tries to download from Microsoft site WindowsXP-KB2950467-x86-ENU.exe file which does not exist (see MS014-18). I have downloaded  ie6-win7-1.0.111.0.zip instead, and remove KB2936068 from XP machine. I've successfully created IE6 layer and exported the layer with SWV to XPF file.

I have imported the XPF file on Win7 x64 and Win7 x86 machines. When I launch IE6 package, I receive the following error: "iedw.exe - Application Error" "The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application." Under eventvwr, I have the following event: ID 1000, log name:Application, Faulting application name: iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.5512, time stamp 0x48025225. Faulting module name: LPK.dll, version 5.1.2600.5512, time stamp 0x4802a0e5. This event is logged on both environment (x86 and x64).

Windows XP machine is US, and Windows 7 x86 and x64 machines are US too. How can I invertigate this issue ?

Any help will be greatly apreciated.. Thanks in advance :-)

Hello,

We already found this issue and have identified the root cause of the issue that cause IE6,7 to crash on Windows 7.

We will keep you posted as we make progress on fixing it.

Thanks for the update. Root cause is linked to lack of GPSVC.dll ?
