Computer Is Probably Infected / Sending Spam

Hi Fahad,

Those pop-ups come from SEP or SAV, rather than from SMS for Exchange or Domino.   Usually when they are seen, it means that a computer is infected and is being used by a spammer to send out unwanted messages.

This article will help:  Many Unexpected Pop-Ups from Symantec Email Proxy are Displayed

Please let the forum know of your progress!

Thanks and best regards,

Mick

Moving to the SEP/SAV

Moving to the SEP/SAV forum so someone who knows the products may see this and be able to help.

Isolate Computer / Full System Scan with Latest Definitions

Hi Fahad,

Have you managed to resolve those pop-ups by applying the latest Rapid Release definitions and performing a full system scan on that computer, preferably in safe mode?

What threat was detected on it?  Until the email-sending threat on that computer is identified and removed, I strongly recommend keeping it isolated form the network.  There's already enough spam in the world as it is! :)

Final note: after the computer has been cleaned, make sure that you are running SAV 10.1 MR8 or MR9.  Those latest two releases contain very important improvements that will enable SAV to work efficiently with today's large definiton sizes.  Older releases can encounter trouble from time to time.

Thanks and best regards,

Mick
