How do i go about pointing all of my managed 11.x clients to a new 12.1 SEPM server?

I have read several things about using the sylinkdrop tool but im unsure how to run that remotely.  Does anyone have a sugestion on how to accomplish this.  Thanks.

    use this tool

the only difference is that you need to take the sylink from SEP 12.1; rest is all same

Why you are not simply using the correct migration procedure?

I cant push an updated version of the client out all at once and the server the 11.x version is sitting on is being shutdown very soon.  I need to be able to point the 11.x clients to my new 12.x manager so that i can slowly upgrade the clients.

that would work, once your clients are in new SEP 12.1 you can use the autoupgrade feature to push out the groups..let us know if you have any questions plz ;)

The sylinkdrop tool is working properly.  It did copy the sylink file to the machine and overwirte it and  I can see in the logs where it says its connecting to the new 12.1 server.  But the machine never shows up in the console.

I want to thank everyone for the migration documents but i dont know if they can work for my scenrio.  Because the new 12.1 server is setup different than my old 11.x.

using sql database instead of imbedded

Created new policies. (do not want 11.x policies)

I have multiple domains created and syncing with AD (did not sync with AD in 11 and only had one domain)

Does the Sylink tool work with Windows 7 64 bit? I am having to manaully script it because the Sylink tool does not seem to be replacing the sylink.xml file.

    Hi,

I hope you would have read entire thread which i had linked in previous comment.

    Check ioniancat21 comment

" Being that I have only one domain, I was able to uninstall the RU7 SEPM and do a fresh install of SEPM 12.1 and then follow the 11.x DR documentation linked above to restore back my DomainID and JKS Keystore file. All my clients appeared in a few minutes and all I had to redo was the groups and policies, which I would have done anyway going to this new version as some features have been added.

Anyway, if any of you have a simple one domain setup like myself you can be up and running in minutes. Thanks again to Chetan for providing a link to TECH162071 which led me down this road."

I believe you are also trying to do same.

    Chetan,

I have looked over the method you posted and i really dont think that is going to work for my situation.  I only want to point the clients to the new server and have them grab the new policies.

My 12.1 environment is completly different than my 11.x setup.  The way i understood the DR method is everything had to be named the same or atleast I needed to have some parts very similar.  I know right off the bat it would not restore correctly because of the database changes.  The recovery forces me into doing an embedded database but i am using SQL on my new setup.

If i am completly looking at this the wrong way please let me know but i just see this method working.  thanks.

I have mistaken.  I guess a used a file from the wrong domain but the pc that i pushed the sylink file to is now showing up.  It was just in the wrong location.  I will test with a differnt file and post back.

I did run the drop tool from a windows 7 x64 box and pushed the same file to a windows xp system.
