I recently installed Symantec Corporate Edition Server 10.1.6.6000 on a Windows Server 2003 LAN.  It was an upgrade after 10.1.5 was giving us some problems.  When I installed 10.1.6.6000, I did a complete removal of Symantec and did a fresh install.  When I completed the installation, the C: drive had approximately 3.8 GB of free space.  Over the last several weeks, the space on C: is down to around 2.93 GB.  Each time the Symantec server goes out and fetches the latest virus definitions and pushes them out to the other machines on the LAN, the space on C: goes down just a bit.  Previously, this would occur, but seemed to clean itself out periodically and the space would be re-claimed on the C: drive.  It does not appear to be doing it this time.  Any suggestions on settings that might aleviate this problem before space disappears completely would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great day! :smileyhappy:

I am assuming that based on the lack of response that no one has any idea as to a possible cause/solution for this?  If I have posted in the wrong forum or if someone from Symantec does not have a solution, please advise.

Thanks again for any help that someone might provide.

Have a great day!

How many vdb/xdb files are you seeing on the parent server in the Symantec AntiVirus directory?

In the C:\Program Files\SAV there is one .xdb and 5 .vdb files.  Of another note, I am seeing a file, C:\Program Files\SAV\I2_LDVP.VDB\vd26cc10.xdb, that is currently 873 MB and has a large number of .MGS, .MG3, .MG5, etc, etc (lots of different file extentions/there are approximately 3600 different files in this location) files starting from October 10th which was right about the time that my installation was done.  Please advise if I am on the right track.  From some of the searches I have done through the forums, it does not appear as if I am the first.  If there is an existing solution, I may have overlooked it.

Thanks!:smileyhappy:

Guessing that no one has an idea on this.  Is it okay to delete the contents of the I2_LDVP.VDB folder?  If not, any suggestions as this appears to be the source of the vanishing space.  Also, is there a setting during installation or through the SSC that I can make that will clean this out periodically?

Thanks in advance.:smileyhappy:

I'm having the same issue. the SAV folder had 11GB worth of VDB files!

I think I found the culprit. In the Symantec Admin Console, look under Reports\Report Settings.  Mine was set to keep logs for 12 months. I set it to one month (you could even turn it off if you'd like) and then deleted all those extra VDB files.

That's gotta be the issue, its the only thing I could find anyway.  I'll know in a few months if they run out of space again.
