Symantec AntiVirus 10.2.0.276 Auto-Protect failed to load

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 32-Bit. Just recently I had a security pop-up saying my antivirus was not enabled. In my task bar I have the symantec shield but it has a red circle and line through it. When I right click on that shield and then click on enable auto-protect it does not enable. It puts an entry into the history saying "Symantec AntiVirus Auto-Protect failed to load" and then does nothing else. I have updated, uninstalled and re-installed, but to no avail. Any ideas?

Make sure you do not have a

Make sure you do not have a virus infection on the computer that disables/corrupt your antivirus protection. You need to use an external virus scanner or removal tool if your current antivirus is not working.

Try with link to use Norton Security Scan. http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/WelcomePage.asp

Begin with this and post your result.

Was that pop for Windows Security Center?

What SP for Vista you have? If you have SP1 please upgrade to SP2 and the issue would be resolved.

Windows Security Center error: "Symantec Endpoint Protection is on but is reporting its status to Windows Security Center in a format that is no longer supported"

I have SP2. And no, that was not the error received. My WSC comes up and says "Symantec AntiVirus reports that it is turned off." When i click on the "Turn on" button in WSC it gives me the admin allow pop-up and I click OK and then nothing happens. Also I have already tried the driver update that you linked to in your next post. Thank you.
