Symantec AntiVirus is the cause of my Apple Mac OS X computer crashing.

When my computer crashes and I am forced to hold down the power button for 6 seconds in order to force a shutdown, upon restart I am always presented with the Symantec "SCAN NOW" dialog box.

What seems to trigger this crash is when I switch "Apple Menue/Locations" from one setting to another (ie. ethernet to wifi)

    SYSTEM DETAILS:
Mac OS 10.5.7 (same problem with 10.5.6)
MacBook Pro 2.5 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo

    SCREEN SNAP SHOTS:
    Symantec AntiVirus 10.2 (17)

I don't have a Mac so it hard to help, but have you try re-installing?

If switching locations seems to trigger the crash, what leads you to conclude that it is SAV for Mac is involved, aside from the scan that launches at restart?  The scan that is trying to launch may be a missed event (there are no 'startup scans').  What happens if you allow the scan to finish?  Remove all scheduled scans--does it happen again?  Remove SAV for Mac--does it still happen?

What is generated in the crash log?  (Console > Log Files > ~/Library/Logs > Crash Reporter)

The issue may be with the virus definitions in use. Update to the latest virus definitions via LiveUpdate, or download from the Symantec Security Response website.
