Hi! When I run Symantec AntiVirus on my Windows PC (or when it performs a regularly scheduled scan) I get an error message before the scan is complete: "Symantic AntiVirus has encountered a problem and needs to close. Please tell Microsoft about this problem." It has an option to debug and send an error report. I clicked on debug but it didn't seem to do anything. Thank you!

    Hello,

"Symantec AntiVirus has encountered a problem and needs to close. Please tell Microsoft about this problem."

Question arises, Why would an error related to Symantec Antivirus send to Microsoft?

    1) This could be either when there is an issue related to the Operating System OR

    2) Issue related to clash of Drivers with Microsoft,

What version of SEP 11.x version are you running?

What Operating System are you running ?

Make sure you are carrying the Latest version of SEP version of 11.0.7101

Again, incase you are carrying SEP 11.0.RU6 on Windows 7, check this Article:

Symcorpui crashing on Windows 7. Error: 'Symantec AntiVirus has stopped working' while running scan.

    Hope that helps!!

    My SEP version is 11.0.2010.25

I'm not running Windows 7, it is XP Profession, version 2002

With regards to clash of drivers, what can be done? I will take most of the answers to someone who deals with IT...

WIth regards to the logs, there was a new virus definition loaded in the last few days. Also a number of scans of files that could not be completed within MSO Cache, Dell Control Point (which was disabled recently due to wireless internet issues) and another location.

    Thank you!

    Hello,

    This could be the reason.

You are carrying a older version of SEP. I would request you to migrate to the Latest version of the SEP.

The Latest version of SEP is 11.0.7101

Check this Article to find how Old version are you carrying:

What are the Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) versions released officially?

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/what-are-symantec-endpoint-protection-sep-versions-released-officialy

It is important to maintain consitency in the SEP 11 - check article below:

About Maintaining Consistency of Software Versions throughout a SEP 11 Organization

Migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.7101 (RU7 MP1)

Reason for Migration to the Latest version; check the Release Notes:

    Hope that helps!!
