Symantec Backup Exec 10d takes too much time for backup

Created: 04 Sep 2013 | 3 comments

I am using symantec backup exec 10d to take backup of my 6 windows based and 1 linux based server.

Symantec is taking too much time to take weekly full backup.

I dont know what is the issue and I really dont know how to tackle with this because I am very new to Symantec Backup Exec.

From last 40 its taking full backup (70GB) and still its showing backup process is running and out of 70 GB data only 20 GB data backed up, remaining is in process.

Please help me to sort out this issue.

Is this a new issue, or has it been a problem before? Have you tried a reboot of the media server? And what are you backing up too?

Something else to check is the network speed. You can do this by copying some data between the media server and the remote servers and checking the speeds. if this is slow, you need to check that the network cards and switch ports they attach too are set to the fastest speed possible, eg. 1000MB FULL.

Check the 2 TNs below as they are very good at helping to troubleshoot this:

Hi, you can also check and make sure an antivirus program isnt conflicting with the job by excluding the Backup Exec processes from the AV scan. see the following link:

Also, make sure Backup Exec is upto date with Live Updates

in addition, consider upgrading to a more current version of Backup Exec since 10d is not longer supported. I recommend upgrading to Backup Exec 2010 R3.  The newest version is Backup Exec 2012 and is quite different than 10d.
