This issue has been solved. See solution.

Dear All Bro,

Now 2012 is available now, so I want to upgrade it fm 2010R3 to 2012.

I have some question again( really sorry to bother you all)

1. Before upgrade it , what should I do? (Backup what?)

2 will the existing setting can directly import to 2012?

3.If fail, can i roll back to 2010R3 and work normal?

4. After download 2012, I can directly run it & auto upgrade to 2012?

5.Remote agent, CPS console also need to upgrade to lastest version?

Kindly let me know the steps & more information.

Thanks all bro.

1) Before upgrading stop SQL server BKUPEXEC service and make a copy of the DATA and

CATALOGS folder. These folders are located at X:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec

2) When you perform an Inplace upgrade, all the jobs, policies, media sets and other settings are

retained and imported into the new version.

3) Well if it fails we can fix it but if you really  want to roll back then the DATA and CATALOGS

folder will  help you to rebuild the older version.

4) You may run the setup.exe which will initiate the upgrade process.

5) You need to manually update the remote agents either through the BE console or by copying

installables on the remote server. I guess CPS is no more supported in BE2012

Thanks for reply,

I know if fail we can fix it, however all the system running, so I can't bear the risk.

CPS no more supprted in BE2012??  < If my existing server already install BE2010R3,

then it means no need to upgrade it? or install other type of BE?

You will not be able to upgrade CPS as its not available in BE2012.

Hi Joeson,

If you've seen BE 2012 you'll see it is a VERY different look compared to BE 2010. So be prepared, and if possible, check it out first on a VM on your workstation/laptop.

Anyway, you'd do the following:

1. Stop all your BE services and grab a copy of your Data and Catalogs folders. Stop any AV running on the server during the upgrade too.

2. A new feature of the upgrade is that it shows you the migration of the BEDB in 2010 --> the new BEDB in 2012. It also allows you the option of rolling back to the old version if need be.

3. As above...it allows you to roll back manually, and if the backup fails, will do so automatically for you.

4. Yes you can, no hassles. Just mount the ISO.

5. If you have a CASO in place, you upgrade the CASO first, followed by any media servers. If just a couple of media servers, or even 1, upgrade the media server first, and then push-install to any remote servers you might have.

Much thanks for your information, I will try it.

...take note of the applications (like DLO) that BE 2012 no longer supports (DLO for example is its own product now), and is now EoL...

Craig's advice is good, I'd just like to add that I think the videos that were made to help understand the new UI, the setup, monitoring, workflow, etc., are great and I've heard nothing but positive feedback on them from Beta/First Availability participants:

Dear All,

I have a lot of customers who have a need to buy new agents for their actual infrastructure (BE 2010) but they have installed Backup Exec media server 2010. The new agents of Backup Exec 2012 such as Agent for VMware and Hyper-V is compatible with BE 2010 media server or to use new agents have to upgrade to BE 2012 is mandatory.

Kindly let me know more information.

Thanks all
