Symantec Bare metal recovery

Created: 02 Aug 2013 | 3 comments

A Customer who is currently running SBS 2008 on PowerEdge T610, he is backing up this server using Symantec Backup exec 2012 SBS edition to a tape drive. ( LTO 4)

He wants to do a bare metal recovery from the tape drive to a new server T620 ( 12th gen) running SBS 2008 in case the primary server is stolen.

He is currently trying test and see if this will work but he is getting a blue screen.

The new server will be sitting on the shelf without being used but if the first server is stolen they will than install SBS 2008 on the new server and want to d a Bare metal recovery.

Is this possible ? if not what would be the right solution. ( Customer already have the equipment they just want to know how to get it to work.)

What did the customer used to do his test? SDR?  If so, then it should work.

Without further details like what was done or what stage of the recovery failed, nobody would be able to comment further.

Hello prin56prin

If you are getting a blue screen once recovery completes most likely it is because of some driver....if u have some hardware which require specific drivers eg nic crads than when you start the sdr process I.e when you boot your system with sdr disk...in sdr console you would see utilities as an option..in utilities you would see load driver ....select that option and load appropriate drivers and than run the restore....

It might help if we knew if the blue screen was:

a) when booting the SDR disk

b) after a restore has been perfomed and on first boot of the recovered operating system
