    Hi Everyone,
    Do we have any configurations on how to create end user spam digest management on selected users for the Symantec Brightmail Gateway v.7.7 Appliance?
    Hope you can help me on this.
    Thanks,
    Jun

    Hi Kevin,

    Thanks for your response.
    What if the required spam policy for all domain users are set to quarantine and not to delete the message, how can we set all domain users not to recieve the notification and only the selected users on a created group will recieve the notification?

    Thanks,
    jun

    HI Jhun,

    You can keep Quarantine instead of Delete, but due to this there will be lots thousand/hundred emails in quarantine taking unnecessary space.Further this will take too much load on Appliance/ssytem. you need to increase Quarantine storage capacity as well as you need to tune the expunger to run every day. Also you need to determine the number of days to sotre email in quarantine depending upon your mail flow.

    Hence not recommended to use Quarantine instead of Delete.

    You can create a rule for spam poci to send notification to users for any mails detected as quarantine. For this you need to integrate the same with ADS via LDAP.

    Pls see the Administration guide, they have mentioned the same in detail.

    Incase you need any help, call tecnical support and they will help you on this.

    Hi,

    I'm thinking of adding one more local domain to my 8380 but I'm afraid that the client in that new domain might not be able to recieve any quarantine notifications as my LDAP Authentication is only sync to my old domain. Will there be anyway to allow my clients in the new domain to recieve the notifications as well?

    regards;
    Colin

    Hi Colin,

    if all the LDAP data exists in one directory you should be able to manipulate the queries to handle the multiple domains.

    In this case it sounds like you actually have two different LDAP directories and unfortunately the SBG only supports one LDAP Authentication source, which is the component that allows end user access to quarantine and sends the notifications.  We are planning to allow multiple LDAP Authentication sources in a future version.

    Best Regards,

    Kevin

    Hi Kev,

    If 8380 is to have more then one local domain LDAP Sync, can the notification action in compliance policy send to the recieptian in this local domain? We are only hoping that the recieptian could be notified.

    If he/she wish to release the email, they will just have to contact the administrator to release it.

    Regards;
    Colin

    Hi Colin,

    LDAP Sync has nothing to do with end users accessing the quarantine or receiving the spam notifications.

    LDAP Sync sources are used to drop messages to invalid recipients(we recommend rejecting messagees to invalid recipients using a recipient validation source), creating group policies based on LDAP groups, or when used in combination with LDAP Authentication it will allow end users to create their own Good and Bad Sender lists or let end users choose what languages they want to receive mail in if enabled.

    Getting back to the question above you create a new spam policy and apply it to a new group policy for all the users at this other domain.  The spam or suspect spam policy action could be set to quarantine a message and have a notification sent to the recipient.  You could even use variables to let the user know who the sender was and the subject of the message.  Keep in mind the users would receive this for each message though and it kind of sounds like a bit of hassle.  Also remember our recommended action for spam is to delete the message.

    Setting up the policy described above wouldn't require LDAP Sync at all.
