Hello! Do you mean these

Hello!

Do you mean these products:

Symantec Brightmail Message Filter 6.x
-> this is running as an SMTP Gateway

Symantec Brightmail Gateway 7.x / 8.x (formerly Mail Security 8300 Series)
-> in in my opinion the successor of "Symantec Brightmail Message Filter"
-> this is running as an SMTP Gateway

Symantec Mail Security 6.x for Microsoft Exchange (SMS for Exchange)
-> used in addition to Exchange 2000/2003/2007

Frank

solution?

Bala,

I spoke with one of our sales reps and we do not currently have a web page that allows for direct comparison of our enterprise products.  I was however informed that you can call our Channel Sales Support line at 888-780-7962 and they can help walk you through the differences in products.

Thanks,
John

Thanks Frank and John for

Thanks Frank and John for your answers, but I would like to point out that Symantec Brightmail Gateway (SBG), though a successor of Symantec Brightmail Message Filter (SBMF), is not meant to replace SBMF in extremely high volume/ high throughput environments like ISPs.  The two products have different feature sets suited to different markets.  SBG is more suited to Enterprise customers.

Both are gateway products, but key difference between these two is that SBG comes with its own MTA whereas for SBMF you have to have your own MTA to integrate with.  This point will become clear if you look at the topic titled "System requirements" on page 51 in SBMF 6.1 Implementation Guide (available here: ftp://ftp.entsupport.symantec.com/pub/support/docu... ).

As for the client and server components of SBMF, please see the topic titled "About deploying the Client and the Server" on page 34 in the above mentioned Implementation Guide.

Regards,

Adnan

You can definitely use SBMF

You can definitely use SBMF in MS Exchange 2007 environment, but if you are looking to install SBMF on exchange 2007, then you need to know more...

...this KB implies that SBMF can be installed on exchange 2007:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-gate.nsf/...

...but based on the following KB, I would not recommend installing it on exchange 2007 box:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-gate.nsf/...

Hope that answers your questions.

Thanks

Adnan
