  • 1.  Symantec Desktop Firewall (SDF) to SEP

I need to migrate my customer from SDF to SEP.  Do I need to uninstall SDF before installing SEP or SEP will recognize that software and upgrade? Any feedback is welcome. MA

SEP client installation routines check for the existence of the following software
and blocks migration if this software is detected:
    ■ Symantec AntiVirus client and server 8.x and earlier
    ■ Symantec Client Security client and server 1.x
    ■ Symantec Client Firewall 5.0
    ■ Symantec System Center, all versions
    ■ Symantec Reporting Server 10.x
    ■ Confidence Online Heavy by Whole Security, all versions
    ■ Norton AntiVirus and Norton Internet Security, all versions
    You must uninstall this

So you need to Un-install Symantec Client Firewall

The following software is not migrated and can coexist on the same computer as
    Symantec Endpoint Protection client software:
    ■ Symantec Client Firewall Administrator, all versions

Is Symantec Desktop Firewall the same as Symantec Client Firewall.  I think those are two different products.

Yes they are two different Products. SEP firewall is an included feature in SEP along with Antivirus/Antispyware & Proactive Threat Protection. The Network Threat Protection or the NTP takes care of the firewall

Symantec desktop firewall is not supported so you have to un-install it before installing SEP.
