    The description for Event ID ( 1 ) in Source ( ASA 9.0 ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: sem5, Fatal error: Could not open/read file: D:\sym endp\data\inbox\log\system\2D68DE3EC0A8110B01C01BA9E9EC8639.tmp.dat

    Tried starting directly through dbasrv9 but this error pops up Could not open/read file: D:\sym endp\data\inbox\log\system\2D68DE3EC0A8110B01C01BA9E9EC8639.tmp.dat

    Are you getting the error, while installing SEPM?

    How much disk space is available on the drive where you have the SEPM or the Database?

    You may have to perform Disaster Recovery with the backed up database, if you have taken a backup of the database before this issue started.

    You have tried to rename the sem5.log file to sem5.old and restart the service? Long shot, but it might work.

    \Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\db\sem5.log

    I have seem this myself, my issue was database damage. Do you have a backup of the database?

    \Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\data\backup

    Try the following steps, and see if that helps,

    Open a Command Prompt (Start->Run..->cmd)

    Change directories to the folder containing dbsrv9.exe. Type: CD D:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\ASA\win32\

    Force the recreation of sem5.log. Type: dbsrv9 -f "D:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\db\sem5.db

    Start the Symantec Embedded Database Service. (Start->Run..->services.msc) It should start without issue now.

    Start the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager service. If it stays started go ahead and log into the SEPM and everything should now be working properly.
