Symantec Embedded database service WILL NOT start

  • 1.  Symantec Embedded database service WILL NOT start

    Posted Jul 08, 2009 01:50 PM
I recently moved the sem5.db to another drive due to the size of the file. I followed the instructions listed in http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/move-sem5db-sep-11

Afterwards, I am no longer able to start the embedded database service.    I have tried doing a repair.   What options do I have here?

Thanks for the quick reply, but that doesn't address my problem at all.  I can't get the database service to start, therefore I can't back it up either.

Do you have the backup of your database ( time stamped zip file not the sem5.db ) and server private key folder ?
If yes then you can restore that database and follow the disaster reovery process.

If you do not have the database backup then I think you are more or less stuck.

You can also paste the errors, if any, from  \program files\symantec\symantec endpoint protection manager\db\out.log

Did you also copy all the other files from that directory as the follow up posts in that first link suggest?

Try renaming sem5.log to sem5.old a new sem5.log should be created once you try to start the service.
    See if this helps.
