    Hi,

We currently use Symantec Encryption Server and I would like to specify a 2nd SMTP server to send through if the primary one that we use goes down. Is it just as simple as creating a new proxy in the mail tab and copying the settings from the first proxy but with the 2nd SMTP server details?

    Thanks,

    Graham

    Dear graham,

I'm not sure if that will work with a second proxy. I don't think so, have never tested it.

Why don't you use the DNS Protocoll and let it work for you? you can work with round robin and mx records?

We need more information about your mail system. Where is the Encrytion Server placed?

It is just an idea, which seems very easy for me :).

    Hi Han,

Thanks for your reply but I mean for outbound email.

Currently email goes from Exchange Server ----> Symantect Encryption Server -----> Smart Host. There is currently a proxy configured in Symantec Encryption Server but I would like to be able to be able to use a fail over smart host.

Exchange Server ----> Symantect Encryption Server -----> Smart Host

Exchange Server ----> Symantect Encryption Server -----> Smart Host2

    Does this make sense?

    Thanks,

    Graham

It make sense, a I now what your target is.

But I don't think, that the Encyrption Server will use the second proxy if the first one will not work, that is an intresseting question, never thougt about that way to solve it.

    BUT

I tested it at our lab, that will work.

Maybe someone else here has done that before and can share it ?

You have tested this and it works?

I have logged a technical ticket with Symantec Support to see what they advise.

    Yes, here what I did.

    Mailflow:

Exchange -> Encryption Server -> SymantecMessaging Gateway

add a second Proxy at the Encryption Server with direct transfer to the recipient

Exchange -> Encryption Server -> direct sending (without proxy to SymantecMessaging Gateway)

then i power off the SymantecMessaging Gateway and the mail was directly send to the recipient.

    So that worked for me...
