  • 1.  Symantec End Point Protection vs KOOBFACE

    Posted Mar 14, 2016 06:03 PM

My operating system is Windows 8.1. I have Symantec End Point Protection Version 12.1.5 (12.1 RUS) build 5337 (12.1.5337.5000).

Twice per week I update and then run full scan. Whatever it picks up, I have it fixed, neutralized or whatever similar option I am given. I have had this software of well over one year.

On Mar 11th, I performed my last scan. The next day I purchased an HP Office jet 5741 printer that stopped working this AM. I called HP and they said I had a network virus called KOOBFACE. That the infection dates back to May 2014.

Prior to this writing, I contacted today via life chat a Symantec individual who said my Symantec is capable of handling this virus. So my questions are:

    1) how can my Symantec not have addressed this virus during my scans each week

    2) how do I have Symantec get rid of this network virus

    2) is my Symantec compatible with WIndows 10. Microsoft is keen on my migrating to Windows 10

Symantec has had protection for this virus for as long as I can remember. Are your defs up to date?

The version you're on is not compatible with Windows 10, you need to get to 12.1.6 MP1, see here:
