I know there were at least 20 viruses/trojans on this one machine from one of my corporate clients and got all them off but still the computer cannot connect to:
www.microsoft.com
www.mcaffee.com
www.symantec.com

and so cannot get latest Microsoft patches and most importantly cannot get latest Symantec virus definitions.

I manually downloaded virus def on another machine and updated them via USB flash drive.  Have checked hosts file, DNS entries, windows firewall and even registry but still no luck connecting to any of those domains.

Anyone got some good ideas???

net stop dnscache

Go to a CMD prompt and type

“net stop dnscache”. This will disable the domain blocking feature of Downadup and the user can now reach security vendors’ websites.

It seems that the computer may be infected by Downadup

Downalod NSS and then run a  Full scan

Chances are you are still

Chances are you are still infected. So my next question is what AV do you currently have installed (and what version)? Also can you ping other sites such as google, yahoo, ect ect. The best thing to do is manually update the machine like you did with the usb drive. Then run a full scan in safe mode with system restore off. See what you get then. It might be helpful to if you told us what steps you took previously to erradicate these 20 viruses, maybe something was wrong there.

Cheers
Grant

It would be helpful if you

It would be helpful if you could translate your post back into english. We appreciate the help but when the user posts in English it doesn't help to post in Spanish. Try this site to do it http://www.spanishdict.com/translation . It is usually good but this last one doesn't translate too well. I think you are saying Check to make sure that the customer can validate or "ping" these sites. I am not sure though, my spanish is rusty.

Grant-
