Symantec End Point User License

Created: 21 Oct 2013 • Updated: 30 Oct 2013 | 13 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

We had purchased the SEP 12.0 User License.

After install the license file, we found the SEP Management Portal is counting per machine.

How can we fix this issue as the SEP Management Portal should count by user?

Hello,

Correct. In Symantec Endpoint Protection, license is counted as per machine basis.

A license lets you install the Symantec Endpoint Protection client on a specified number of computers. A license lets you download virus definitions, security content, and product updates from LiveUpdate.

You must purchase a license that covers each deployed client. One license covers all clients regardless of platform and version.

See Product license requirements

See Purchasing licenses

See Licensing enforcement rules.

Hope that helps!!

I have checked that we are having the User License and there is also called "User Mode" In Management Server.

If I use the "User Mode", how can the Management Server count the machine?

Is that User Mode & Computer Mode is just used for Policy setting and license count is done by per machine?

However, our license purchased in User License. How could our license work in this case?

Seat count is based on number of Computers, not on Users or User Mode

Checking with the My Symantec , the license we have is "SYMC PROTECTION SUITE ENTERPRISE EDITION 4.0 PER USER"

Our vendor help us install SEP 12.1.

Is that the correct software installed?

James007's picture

Yes it's install correct product.

Some license are working in user base and some are machine base.

In SEPM license count are machine base not user base.

But if you are use Symantec Web Gateway it's working on per user base.

It is strange as we purchase the Protection suite enterprise in user license but it's sub-product is count by per machine based.

Is that this violate the user license we purchased?
