    Dear All,

    Read from the following post:

    http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/status-symantec-encryption-desktop

that SED is still available. Also learnt that in order to get SED, the SEE license will be needed.

I actually need to function of SED (to create a virtual drive and encrypt it). However, I can only find in some old documentation that the highest hashing algorithm that SED supports is SHA-1. May I know whether this is still the case please? May I also know the hashing algorithm used for SEE? Is there any documentation that states when SHA-1 will be replaced by another algorithm?

Grateful if anyone could shed some light on this matter.

    Thank you for your time.

    Regards,

    Lok Koo

This is from the key properties in one of my lab systems with Symantec Encryption Desktop:

    HashesAllowed.png

You can see it is SHA-2 256 by default, with the option to increase it to SHA-2 384 or 512.  If you encrypt a virtual drive to this key (as currently set), it will use SHA-2 256.  Some older hash values (SHA-1 and RIPEMD-160 are shown here) are included for legacy support, but not commonly used, and you would have to select them manually.  Below is the editable hash screen:

SEE does not have the ability to create a virtual encrypted drive, but I think you will find current versions of SED will meet your needs.

    Dear Mike,

Thank you so much for your reply.

Regarding SED, does it mean that I can purchase SED separately?

Or is it still as Phillip mentioned in the post (https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/status-symantec-encryption-desktop) that to get SED, one would need to purchase SEE?

    Thanks and Regards,

    Hi Lok Koo,

The license for both the product will be covered under the same license key, even if you buy SED you will be licensed to use SEE product, both the product are included in the license agreement.

For more details on licensing please get in touch with the licensing / customer care team from the list in the below link according to your location http://www.symantec.com/support/assistance_care.jsp
