What version of SEP 11 are you installing? Is there any other security software on the system now?

Can you please post the SEP_INST.log?

From start - run - %temp%\SEP_INST.log, search for Return Value 3 and post the 10 lines above the return value 3.

Thumbs up to Thomas Suggestion.

It is very important here to understand what version of SEP are you installing on the Windows Vista Platform. Make sure you are installing the Latest version of SEP (version 11.0.7000) on the Windows Vista Machine.

Again, Incase, if you have a Norton Product installed on you machine, it should be uninstalled along with Liveupdate application before you install Symantec Endpoint Protection.
