Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 on Windows Vista Professional

    Hello,

I am having the hardest time using Symantec Endpoint Protection on my Dell XPSm1210 with Windows Vista 32Bit Professional.

In multiple times it forces the PC to restart and I have no choice but to:

    a)  Either boot up in Safe Mode and uninstall Symantec E P.  11
    b)  Restore the PC to a previously successful backup startup point, but which exludes SEP 11.

Is there a fix for this?    I have found that this is a problem, but I would like to know of a fix directly from Symantec.

I also tried to install my previous license of Symantec Antivirus version 10, but it would not install on Vista, so I am stuck either
fixing it or finding another anti-virus solution.

    Regards..

    Riquet

Please install the latest version MR4 Mp1a

You can also install SAV 10.2  on vista.

We are not encountering problems with these releases on Vista.

    Hi,

You mentioned that you are using the Vista operating system. Please do the following and let us know whether it helped.
    • Ensure that the machine has the latest Windows update
    • Install the latest version of end point i.e 11.0.4014 MR4MP1
    • If you do not have it you can download it from https://fileconnect.symantec.com/licenselogin.jsp?localeStr=en_US
    • Install endpoint as an unmanaged client with only Antivirus & Antispyware feature
    • Check for the behaviour of the machine
    • Try restarting the machine in Safe mode with networking  this ensures that only the operating and the symantec services get loaded ...check for the behaviour of the machine
    • If you are familiar with MSCONFIG utility you can use this tool to find out which application is causing this issue.
    • Last not the least the latest endpoint version works fine on Vista machine
I am sure this would help

I had been deploying to Vista/Windows 7 (beta) 32/64 bit Pro/Ultimate machine with both MR4 and MR4 MP1 and so far it works without the issue you mention.
it may be your computer has suspecious activity to system file and SEP11 client decided to remote it.

Let us know what the outcome is. :)

    Thanks.

You don't say which version of the agent you are having problems with. The best troubleshooting method when dealing with this type of issue is to insure that you have installed the latest version of the product to rule out any issues that might have been resolved in the latest release of the product, then if you continue to have the same issue, you might want to consider placing a call with support.

It maybe a good point also to post SEP install log here to further troubleshoot on the issue.

    Hi,

Try to check the event viewer to see which causes the problem.
I think you need to do exclusions here.

    Thanks,

after uninstalling it try deleting the registry keys using a third party registry cleaner and then try  reinstalling it

I have had varying degrees of difficulty installing SEP 11.3 and 11.4 on Vista and Windows 7 RC.  Finally what fixed the issues was disabling UAC(User Access control) once that was turned off installation and operation worked fine.

I suggest upgrade to the latest version of SEP. This might help resolve the problem.

    Thanks.
