I'm new to configuring a firewall through this program and need to know how I can open a few ports for a companies software. I have mainly just went in and made a new firewall rule allow access to those ports, but when I scan the ports they come up closed.

Are you doing this on a managed or unmanaged client? If managed, there is a good article here http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO80979&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1425077090033

Are you creating rules to allow access from specific hosts? Or just opening up ports to/from all hosts?
