    Hello,

If you chose to use this option, you must install Microsoft SQL Server before you install the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager. Additionally, the SQL Server client tools must be installed on the same computer where you install Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.

You should consider purchasing and installing Microsoft SQL Server for the following reasons:

    • You must support more than 5,000 clients. Each management server that uses Microsoft SQL Server can support up to 50,000 clients. If your organization has more than 50,000 clients, you can install another management server.

    • You want to support failover and load balancing.

    • You want to set up additional management servers as Site Partners.

See Determining how many sites you need.

If you create a Microsoft SQL Server database, you must first install an instance of Microsoft SQL Server and configure it for communication with the management server. If you plan to set up additional management servers as Site Partners, you must use a SQL Server database for the management server.

See About SQL Server configuration settings.
