  • 1.  Symantec Endpoint Protection 6A on Windows 7 Home Premium

    Posted Aug 25, 2010 06:16 PM
To previously recap: I cannot get SEP 11 to install on my Windows 7 laptop. I am downloading it from a university that a family member of mine belongs to.Recently, I saw on the download site for the university that "Version: Endpoint 11MR6A" is available. I have tried installing that in the past and that didn't work. It just rolls back during installation.

    Can anyone help?
    Thank you.

Are you a student of this university? Or, are you authorized to download the software under their license? I believe if you are not a student you cannot legally download and use the software on your computer. The university pays for licenses and I don't think that covers students friends and family members.

I am authorized. I checked. I have the family member login to download the software.

    Hi Codyw,

Technically, why the instalation is failing, could be known from the  sep_inst.log file. Please go to start-Run, and type: %temp%, and upload the sep_inst.log file here.

Please go to run and type %temp%

Look for a file called SEP_inst.log

In the log file look for return value 3  and paste 6-7 lines before that

We need all the instances for the Return value 3

    Hi codyw,

    Kindly  do the following:

    1. Uninstall Liveupdate 3.3 from add/remove  prog, in control panel.
    2. Delete the Liveupdate folder from C:/program data/Symantec...You may have to enable show hidden files and  foldwers  from control panel-Folder  options-tools-View to see  program data folder)
    3. Also, delete  Liveupdate  from C:/program files(x86)/Symantec, if present.
    4. Now try  to install SEP

I wish my friends at the local university had such a program.  Very generous to let all and sundry install the application.
