  • 1.  Symantec Endpoint Protection (Client) not uninstalling

    Posted Nov 01, 2011 12:34 PM

    I have a client with

    Symantec Endpoint Protection Version  12.1.671.4971

The Client Computer is running Windows 7 Enterprise Edition SP1

I am trying to Uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection Version  12.1.671.4971 from this client computer.

During the unistall process it seems to finish and than reads rolling back operation and the uninstall fails.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    phaugland

    Hello,

Check in services.msc to if the Symantec Endpoint Protection and Symantec Management Client are running.

Restart the client machine and run the uninstall once more

From Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager >Click View >Click Show Hidden Devices >Under Non - Plug and Play Drivers >Check for SRTSP >Uninstall

Let me know how it goes for you.

    Best,

    Thomas

I know have a 2nd computer running Windows 7 Enterprise that is having the same issue, this one is being ran on VMWare.

The Symantec Endpoint Manager asked me to restart to apply updates.

I did and now the services wont start and I am unable to uninstall it from the computer.

Again on this computer I did not find  SRTSP under Non-Plug and Play Drivers.

It might be worth noteing that these are both 64bit versions of the OS.

Thanks again for your help in resolving this issue.

The Symantec Services are not running on the computer and I am unable to start them.

Saddly I did not find SRTSP under Non-Plug and Play Drivers.

In the Windows Event Log I am seeing these messages in this order for each attempt i make to start the service.

    1. The Symantec Management Client service depends on the Symantec Endpoint Protection service which failed to start because of the following error:    The operation completed successfully.
    2. The Symantec Endpoint Protection service entered the stopped state.
    3. The Symantec Endpoint Protection service terminated with service-specific error %%-1.

    Update:
I now have a 2nd Client Windows 7 Enterprise having the same issues. This one is being ran on VMWare.
Symantec Endpoint Manager asked me to restart the computer.
Once I did, the Symantec Services did not start. I am unable to manually start them.
I did not find  SRTSP under Non-Plug and Play Drivers.
Again, I am unable to uninstall.
It is running the same version on Endpoint Manager.

It may be worth noteing that they are both the 64bit Version of Windows 7 Enterprise.

However, I am now having the same problem on another computer running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1.

You might consider using the Cleanwipe tool to remove the agent. I suggest opening a case with Symantec support and have them provide the utility for removing the SEP client.

I am seeing a new error when i try to start the Symantec Endpoint Protection service from Services.msc.

Windows could not start the Symantec Endpoint Protection on Local Computer. For More information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-mircosoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code-1.

In the event logs it reads

The Symantec Endpoint Protection service terminated with service-specific error %%-1
