symantec endpoint protection has failed to install contact your it administrator

When trying to upgrade from 12.1.5 to 12.1.6 on a Mac 10.11, I get the following.  I've tried in the uninstall tool/script and that didn't resolve the issue.

Was this a fresh install? Was there any previous antivirus on the machine?

SEP 12.1.5 was on the machine and the machine had been updated to 10.11.1, El Capitan.

    Hi,

    Mac OS X 10.8, 10.9, 10.10 are the only supported operating systems with SEP 12.1 RU6 MP1a.

    Refer System requirements articles: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH231877

SEP next release due date isn't available on public forum, but I believe once 10.11 officially released SEP compatibile version will be avaialble at that time or within few days.

Our campus uses a Network Access Control (NAC) solution, and our policy requires SEP for all users.  We do not manage student computers, but they are required to use SEP to pass the NAC policy.  They are upgrading to Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan, and we do not have an officially supported version of SEP to provide them that is compatible with El Capitan.  We need Symantec to provide us with a timeline of when an updated version of SEP will be compatible so that we can plan accordingly.  It seems like we need to do this "song and dance" for SEP compatibility releases for each new OS that is released.  Even if a product update cannot be provided right on time - it is imperative that Symantec be more transparent in its plans and at least provide the date it will be available as institutions need to be able to plan.  Vague answers, such as "in the near future" or "in a few weeks" is not practical for planning in the enterprise environment.  It should also not require opening up an enterprise support case just to get this information.  It is very frustrating that Symantec cannot have product releases, especially critical apps, such as antivirus protection, available the same day as a public release of a new operating system.  There are developer and beta releases of new operating systems released months in advance for Symantec to do product development and testing on, it would be appreciated to have Symantec product releases on time with new OS releases - especially when BYOD is involved where institutions cannot control OS updates on the BYOD systems.

    Hi Brady Gallesee,

At Symantec, we are committed to ensuring our customers: Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1, Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition (hosted version)  remain fully protected across all operating systems.

To test major releases we have Symbeta program in place.

This portal will be used to host pre-release programs (Technical Previews, Demos and Alpha/Beta/RC) for Symantec products. Please save the above link in your favorites if you wish to continue to participate in Symantec pre-release programs.

If you have any queries related to Symantec pre-release programs or issues accessing the Symbeta portal, please send your queries to Symbeta@symantec.com .

I think Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan compatible SEP version is almost due for the release now, so beta testing is no longer available.

Once the official release came out for OS X 10.11 El Capitan then i think SEP compatible version will be available within 4- 5 days. Currently it's still showing 'Coming on 30th Sep' on Apple web page.

I shall update you asap once i received an official update from our team.

Thanks for the article Brady.  I'm missing something though - when I review that article, I do not see a link to download the RU6 MP2 version so I can apply it to my user's El Capitan Mac.  Where in that article is the download link?

    Sincerely,

    Rob

    Hello Rob,

I was able to find SEP 12.1 RU6 MP2 at https://licensing.symantec.com/ - login, then click "Get Software" and enter your product serial number to see the download.  If you're not seeing it or don't have your SN, you may need to contact support.

    Best,

    Brady

    Hi Rob,

Go to https://symantec.flexnetoperations.com/control/symc/registeranonymouslicensetoken & enter product serial number which generally starts with M. e.g. M234657899

I'm still having this issue when installing SEP client 12.1.6465.6200 on OSX 10.11

I've tried using the exported version from my SEPM and the generic version included in the SEP_Mac folder in the SEPM 12.1.6 MP2 Full Installation archive file.

The error I keep seeing in the Apple Console logs is:

Symantec Endpoint Protection Installer: Current operating system is supported by SEP
Symantec Endpoint Protection Installer: SEP Install Helper tool is available!
Symantec Endpoint Protection Installer: SEP INSTALL LOG HAS BEEN UPDATED
com.apple.xpc.launchd: (com.symantec.sep.SEPInstallerHelper) FairPlay decryption failed on binary.

just providing an update, I contacted Symantec Tech Support today and it turned out to be a corrupt package. (both the extracted/managed package and the generic/unmanaged package from the original downloaded archive)

after downloading a fresh copy of the unmanaged/generic SEP client directly from the fileconnect.symantec.com site, I was able to install on OSX 10.11.1 with no issues. However, it requires the extra step of updating the symlink file, which is not ideal when deploying in larger numbers.

I was told to try extracting a new package from SEPM server again and trying on another 10.11 machine.

I am testing some different scenarios to see if there is a specific situation that is causing these to fail on 10.11

Remote deployments of the SEP client also do not successfully install on OSX 10.11 (it is successfully sent but install fails silently), however, remote push and install does work for 10.10 and lower.
