    Symantec Version:

    12.1.2015.2015

    Problem:

    We are currently licensed for 78 seats, however, the "Symantec Endpoint Protection Licensing Status" report indicates that we are overdeployed by 24 devices. Upon further investigation the report seems to be doing a SQL join between the SEM_client and sem_computer tables.  This causes the license usage to to incorrect when you're using a mixture of user and computer mode.   In our environment we have 10 servers, however, there are a few Citrix servers which I suspect are being counted multiple times since the user accounts are being included when they connect to the clients.

    Is this by design, does licensing include Users AND Computers?

    Thank you,

    Todd

    Licensing will only include number of SEP agents installed.

    Do you have clients showing in the SEPM that are no longer valid? Perhaps can be deleted?

    Are you using the user base policy or computer base policy?

    @Brian81

    When I execute the query:

    select * from sem5.SEM_CLIENT client
    inner join sem5.sem_computer computer on computer.COMPUTER_ID=client.COMPUTER_Id
    order by client.client_id

    I get 102 records returned which is the same number of licenses in use (allegedly) and since we only have a few systems (confirmed with a query) I suspect there is more to the story.

    @sumitgupta
    It appears there's a combination of user and cmputer based which I suspect is part of the problem.

    You can change the all systems in computer mode then remove the duplicate entry form that system and check the count. Same I have done at my last site and I got the resolution of my issue. Hope you understand. thanks

    Hello,

    It is important to understand the license requirements imposed by the system you want to protect. A license lets you install the Symantec Endpoint Protection client on a specified number of computers and download virus definitions and product updates from LiveUpdate.

    Over-deployed means that you have deployed more instances of the client or Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager than your current license allows for.

    I would suggest you to check this Article:

    Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager is showing over deployment of clients

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH168121

    You have only 200 active clients but the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager shows that you using more licenses/seats.
