    Dear All

My SEPM occasionally suffer the hang up when trying to logon the SEPM console.  As the Symantec Embedded database process (dbsrv9.exe) always hang up. I need to restore prevous backup to fix the problem.  Is there any tool to say like housekeeping or keep checking database health to avoid another database hang up?

open a support case to know why the embedded service freezes. You may also check for error in the logs and attempt to fix it.

Once you open a case with Support..ask them to dump dbsrv.exe and debugg it and see if it has any memory leak in it or not.

I did open case to Symantec, but they just advised me to go through the restore DB or even more is the Disaster Recovery procedure.  Nothing they teach me about checking the DB health or even something you mention about Dump dbsrv.exe.  Should I open the case to USA center, as I opened the case at Mainland HK center they only advised as far as the above procedure.

    Hello,

What version of SEP 11.x are you running?

What is the OS are you running SEPM on?

There could be many reason, that the Symantec Embedded database process hungs up.

Major reason could be Lack of Resources, permissions, etc.

Check this Article which may help you:

Monitoring Server Health on Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH122731

Again, have you given a thought of Migrating to SEP 12.1?

    Hope that helps!!

    Dear Mithun

The OS is Windows 2008 R2 standard serving to SEPM version 11.0

I thought to migrate to 12.0, but I come up with 3 questions

    1. Could version 11 database be compatible t0 migrate to version 12 ?

    2. If the database may crash.  Would the same symptom inhert to version 12?

    3. Any tool to verify database health to see if it is crashed or not?

    thanks

    1. Could version 11 database be compatible t0 migrate to version 12 ?

yes, it can be smoothly upgraded to 12.1 RU1 , however 12.1 RU 1 MP1 id the latest release

    2. If the database may crash.  Would the same symptom inhert to version 12?

    follow the DR steps.

    3. Any tool to verify database health to see if it is crashed or not?

DBvalidator is the tool that can be checked for integrity of the db.

Thanks for your reply,  12.1 RU1 MP1 is the version number?

Other quick question, what is the possible reason or root cause for the database crash?  As the database frequently hang up after restore the db.
