I have recently had problems with Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager and Peachtree not playing well with each other.  Would it be okay if I uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager?  What will happen to the clients?  Will they just default to unmananged clients?

They will go offline so it depends on how you have them configured with policies and such if they go offline. I wouldn't just uninstall the SEPM without doing a backup first.

    Are you planning to re-install?

I'm not familar with Peachtree but what is the exact issue?

No I wasn't planning on re-installing.  I think this is just putting to much strain on my network for one.  With Peachtree it will just slow it to a crawl.  I just re-install Symantec Endpoint on one of the computers and Peacthree is working better than it has in months.

How many clients do you have managed by the SEPM?

You can make them unmanaged but you than lose the ability to manage them centrally.

Have you tried setting exclusions for the Peachtree processes?

    I have about 22 clients.

The ability to centrally managed them is nice, but all my users are in one location, so its not a big deal.

An we have tried setting exclusions for Peachtree.

The problem with making them unmanaged is that the best way to ensure they are fully unmanaged is to just uninstall/re-install the client from the download ISO from Part 1. Than they would need to be configured. If this is something you can do than that would be fine.

I'd be more curious as to the issues going on with Peachtree. So this is the SEP client that is having issue with Peachtree? I'm puzzled as to why just re-installing the client seems to have corrected whatever the problem was.

I forgot to ask but what version of SEP is this?

So I would need to re-install each client.  I can do that, its a little time comsuming, but I can do it.

It was a SEP client that is having the issue.  Actually all the Peachtree computers (there is three of them) are all clients of SEP and they all did the same thing.  I re-installed the one as a unmanaged client and it works great according to the user.

    This is SEP 12.1.4

There is a way to make the client "unmanaged" from the SEPM but article on how to do expired and Symantec's recommendation is to just uninstall/re-install as this way make it truly unmanaged. By doing it from the SEPM is not a sure fire way.

Interesting. I'l lleave it up to you on how to proceed, especially if time permits. It would be interesting to take a deeper dive into the problem but users need to work :)
