  • 1.  Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager not pushing to 64-Bit PC's

    Posted Apr 23, 2012 04:37 PM

Using EPM version 12.1 I cannot push AV to any 64-Bit PC or laptop.  But at the same time, I have no issue pushing it to a 32-Bit machine.  Even went as far as failing with the 64-Bit, reinstalling 32-Bit OS and deploying AV without issue.  Won't create deployment package for 64-Bit either.

    Any ideas why?

Please turn off the Windows firewall. For 64 bit machines, it's a different packet you need to export. Did you export the 64 bit compatible pack?

    click admin,

    install packages

on the right side pane, expand the name tab. You will see the 64 bit version of clients.

Give a right click and export the appropriate one.

    Export this packet and try

Are you choosing the right installaion package? if there are both 32 & 64 bit machines in a group, assign both the packages to the group. The clients will automatically pick the right one for installation.

With firewall off, exporting the 64-Bit package hangs on "Preparing".  Checking the folder it exporting to, it grows to 174 MB of the 364 MB it is suppose to export and stops there.

When pushing to the clients, it does see it as 64-Bit and initiates that file, but hangs before actually starting to install.

    Hello,

Could you please let us know on what OS is the SEPM installed?

    Try the following steps -

    1) Repair the SEPM through Add/Remove programs.

    2) Run Management Server Configuration from C:\Program Files\Symantec\ Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Bin\upgrade.bat

    3) Use Migration and Deployment Wizard and it will create package now

    4) From Admin > Install Packages> Client Install Packages also try to export the package

    OR

    Migrate to SEP 12.1 RU1.

    Hope that helps!!

if it fails to push the packet, it triggers a log stating the reason for failure, could you please check that error message and post that?

mean while you can try this doc.

I cannot find any log files for it.  It does not return an error, just hangs at a given point.  When trying to push,  it hangs at 0% of installation.  When exporting from SEPM to install directly, it hangs at 174MB of 364MB exported.

SEPM is installed on Server 2003 SP2, but has no issues deploying to any 32-bit machine.

Downloaded a new install package from Symantec, imported the package to SEPM and trying to push it yields the same result.

Installing it directly on the machine from the downloaded file was successful, it's just independently managed and not through the SEPM.

At this time, I'll just proceed with that until we upgrade in a few short months.

    Hello,

Could you try creating a package with Basic Content option instead of All content and check.

Symantec is currently investigating this issue.

As of now, I would recommend you to Uninstall and Re-install SEPM 12.1 RU1, which would resolve the issue and you would be able to create the client packages.

Again, make sure you have created a case with Symantec Technical Support as well.

I would suggest you to open a Case with Symantec Technical Support.

You would have to call symantec or log a web case.

By exporting a Basic Content package, it quickly exports both a 32bit and 64bit exe just like it should.  Just not when I attempt to export the All Content(Recommended).

Using the 64bit executable package, I installed it on a machine.

That works perfect for me as the only difference is that Symantec takes a few minutes to update from the server once it's installed.  But it does create an entry in the SEPM to track and manage the installation.

Thank you for the suggestion.  Works great.
