Symantec Endpoint Protection password retreival
Created: 14 Sep 2012 | 10 comments
I have this on my computer and it says the definitions are out of date. I try to update but a password screen comes up and i dont have that. We are from a small compnay who used to have an IT person, who, when leaving, took all this info with them. Ive read quite a few forums and have searched for the resetpass.bat, the tools folder, the iforgot file, and cant find any of them. Is there any advise as to how i can get into the system since i need to upadate our database asap

Of
If you don't have any uninstall password change registry setting.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\AV\AdministratorOnly\Security\UseVPUninstallPassword
Set to 0 to disable

Hi,
Could you please confirm the SEPM version?
Prior to SEP 12.1 RU1 MP1, resetpass.bat file would be present under c:or installed drive\Program Files or (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Tools\resetpass.bat
It will reset username & the password to 'admin'.
It's not possible to change the database password later on & it's by design.

Hi Chetan
I dont have a tools folder in the Symantec/Symantec Endpoint...... path. I also dont know what version it is, i didnt install it, is there a way to figure this out. Sorry im not very tech savvy lol
the version of my program is 11.0.4000.2295
Under Add or Remove Programs (or Programs and Features, depending on your version of Windows), you should be able to get Support information.
I'm not aware of being able to set a password to run LiveUpdate. Can you maybe take a screenshot? Is your taskbar menu a tilted shield or an upright one?

taskbar is an upright shield
As far as I know, there is no password retrieval for the client. The resetpass.bat is for lost password for the management console, aka the SEPM. You would need to locate on which machine the SEPM is installed, and from there, you may be able to get in to the SEPM and disable client passwords. That is, if your clients are still communicating with the SEPM.
You should also have no trouble getting to the Administration Guide for your version. It should be able to help you once you are able to log in: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/pr...
You whould know that the build you're using is from November of 2008. I would update as soon as possible. If you no longer have a valid licence, you can call for info on renewing. The information for non-technical support: http://www.symantec.com/support/assistance_care.jsp
Good luck...

I think its the proxy which is asking for the authentication
open control panel
open liveupdate
set the proxy settings as in your Internet explorer.
