Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition and Windows 7 - CONFUSION

    Hi Experts !

I am totally confused about Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition versionnumbers and Windows 7 support, can anyone help ?

    The problem:
My client says that "Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition" Version 12.0.122.92 is installed.
With this version installed on Windows 7 X64 and X86 I get the message ""This driver is blocked due to compatibility issues" every 10 - 20 minutes.

Here in this forum in thread http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/windows-7-support-3 a symantec employee AnnM writes that windows 7 should be fully supported since November, 19 2009.

Later on in this thread they talk about Version 12 RU1 - what exactly do they mean ??

Now I've tried to download a newer version login on the fileconnect with my licence key.

    CONFUSION:
FileConnect lists a link to Symantec Multi-Tier Protection Small Business Edition 11.0.2 - German but says that this is version 11.0.5.
Where did my Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 12.x go ???

Endpoint Protection Manager says it is version 12.0.122.192, the clients show the same version number.

Do I have to downgrade to 11.0.5 ? Will this one then completely work with Windows 7 or still show the message "This driver is blocked due to compatibility issues" ?

To me it is unbelievable that a company like symantec makes me - a 15 year experienced IT expert - so confused !

So - what can I do to solve my main problem ?

    Regards

    Thomas

    12 RU1 - what exactly do they mean ??
this is the release update for 12.0.122
seems like this issue has been fixed in that
    can you refer this discussion
    http://aka-community.symantec.com/connect/forums/windows-7-and-confidence-online-utility-driver-blocked-issue-sep-120122192
    download 12.0 from

    https://www4.symantec.com/Vrt/offer?a_id=77956
check if the downloaded version shows 12.0.10001 if so then it should fix the issue.
seems like you have sep listed too.
12.0 has limited functionality when compared to sep 11.5
if you dont have much systems installed, then it would be good to go with sep , as your serial has sep listed you can download and install it , that should fix the problems.
however we would first download the latest fix, if that does not fix, then moving to sep with loads of features will a good option ( my opinion :) )

    Dear Rafeeq,

when I check my client I have the version 12.0.122.92 installied.
The version number 12.0.10001 you wrote about is a lower version number - isn't it ??

What do you mean with SEP ? SEP = Symantec Endpoint Protection (without Small Business) ?
I did not buy a licence for that product, I was just registered for a company (a customer of mine) as technical contact.

So I think my problem will still be unsolved ?

Unbelievable, Windows 7 is now out for several month !

    Regards

SEP 11.x = SEP Enterprise Edition
SEP 12.x = SEP Small Business Edition
11.x.xxxx.xxxx and 12.x.xxxx.xxxx are 2 diffrent type of products.

11.0.5 is a version of SEP 11.x which is compatible with Windows7.

SEP 12 RU1 = 12.0.1001.95. You can find this build on Fileconnect or Platinum.

Is there a site that lists all version numbers?  A single site that lists all the version numbers for security products released over the last few years and is kept updated would be very helpful.

So there isn't any Symantec web page that lists version numbers for current and past security products?

No, but this is a good idea. You should post this in the "Ideas" section of the forum.

I share the confusion of the other posters re: the small business version of Symantec Endpoint Proctection and Windows 7. Like many others,  I get the message ""This driver is blocked due to compatibility issues" every 10 - 20 minutes. I am running Windows 7, 64 bit edition.

I did learn that if you turn off the proactive threat protection and leave on virus and spyware protection the problem goes away. My older version of Symantec Antivirus did not have proactive threat protection so I am reasonably comfortable with this feature turned off. No problems in the several months I have been running it like this.

I keep checking back to see if there is an updated version which solves this problem but I don't believe there is.

Thought I would pass on this work around as it works for me and I appreciated finding it on another message board.
