    Hello Everyone

We currently have an old version of Symantec End Point protection manager console installed on our server 2003. And we are trying to install the new version of Endpoint that has been released not to long ago.

Now the issue that we have is that we cant install the new version of Symantec due to space issue on the server. Also we deployed Symantec endpoint protection for every user on our network.

The question that I would like to know please... If I remove the current version of Endpoint protection Management Console that's installed on the server at the moment, will it remove all the database files and connection to the users? So if we install the new Endpoint protection, will the new endpoint be able to see all the users on the network and old policies?

If the answer is no... is there a different way that we can approach this problem so we don't have to re-install endpoint protection on every user computer.

    Thanks guys

    Regards

    Steel Rabbit :)

Sounds like you understand that you need more space on the SEPM. After you resolve that,

please go through the following document.  Whenever you initially install a SEPM you must save the recovery information. That assresses your other questions.

    hi steel rabbit,

If you remove the current version of Endpoint protection Management Console it will also remove the database file and connections to the users..for this you need to follow different way to upgrade sepm...

1)take the backup of sepm database

2)backup the keystore file and system.xml file

3)uninstall the sepm and reinstall it

    4)replace keystore and system.xml file

    5)restore the sepm database

    you can follow these article

Also, before I do this... Will the new version be able to read the old version backup? or will the new version will update the old backup database files?

Because of schema changes in newer versions, we recommend you backup and restore SEPM (disaster recovery) with the same version you're already using. The most current build available is 11.0.6300.

Would it be possible to install the new version of Symantec Endpoint Protection (v12) on a different server and do a migration that way?

I know version 12 gave me an option to do a migration, just wondering if that would work? Or is still better to go with a disaster recovery?

    Thank you

you can a new setup of 12 and then migrate the SEP 11 clients to 12, but it's more work as you need to look into 2 setups. Best way is to have DR plan and then upgrade.
