symantec endpoint protection virus definitions Hello Id like some help with a issue im having, endpoint protection downloads virus definitions as it should but the problem is that we are running out of space on our Hard drives. Is there a way i can safely delete the definitions off the C drive once they have been downloaded and installed (I know where they are) without affecting the antivirus. When the definitions are installed are they intergrated into the application or do they need the definitions to stay on the hard drive to be able to use them? Thank you

It looks either your Definitions are corrput or you are using very old version of SEPM or its not properly configured.

First of all make sure your SEPM version is 11.0.6000.xx RU6.

    Hi Sendi,

Do you mean the definitions being downloaded by one individual SEP 11 client, or do you mean the definitions that the organization's SEPM is downloading to supply to its clients?

If you mean the SEPM, these articles will help:  Best Practices for configuring the number of content revisions to keep in Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2009020514050748)  and How to change the number of downloaded content revisions that are kept in 11.0.2000 (MR2) or later (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2008050210542148 )

If it's an individual SEP client, then it should keep a couple copies of older definitions in case the latest ones become unusable for some reason.  Those couple of older sets should not be kept forever, though, and fill up a hard drive.

Please keep the forum up-to-date with your progress!

    Thanks and best regards,

    Mick

    @ Sendi,

How many revisions are you keeping?

You can check in the SEPM: Admin>Local Site>Edit Site Properties>LiveUpdate

Toward the bottom of the screen, you should see the following:
    Disk space management for downloads

One individual SEP 11 client it downloads via DC then exports updates to out networks PC's our servers are VM's so its hard to simply install more storage and we didnt think the updates would be taking up so much space its about 6 years of definitions.

"Downloads via DC" - do you mean that this is a LiveUpdate Administrator 2.x Distibution Center?

How exactly is a SEP client doing exporting to other computers on the network-?
