Hello

I have a old Symantec Gateway Security 5420.

Unfortunately,  it doesn't work.
But I have a backup (configs.bk)
How can I read this file to see my configuration ?

Thanks for help.

Hello,

Have you tried changing the file extension to something other than .bk? Maybe to .zip or .txt and try to open it.

I'm sorry I do not support this product and I was unable to find any documentation on what you are asking about. But let me know if you have and what the result is.

Be sure to back up that file before you start changing the extension.

Thanks!
Tom

Hmm,

And as a .zip didn't work either?

I spoke to a technician here who used to support the firewall, and he said that it should be packaged as a tar.gz and the majority of the configuration files are .xml files.

So you should be able to unpackage it and view the xml.

Hope that helps.

Thanks TOMC 2 ! The file is

Thanks TOMC 2 !

The file is not a tar.gz, zip or xml.
The extension file is .bk

When I did my backup, I have to type a password.
Maybe my file is encrypted ?

Any idea ?

Thanks

Hello,

Sorry, I meant you could try to rename the .bk file to "filename.tar.gz" and see if you can unzip the file. Then most of the configuration should be in xml files located in the unzipped file.

Hey,

Sorry that didn't work, I talked to the support team and the file is apparently encrypted with whatever password you used for the gateway. If you know what your password is, there still should be a way to do that, but unfortunately I am no longer any help in this.

If you still have an active support contract you can give a call to support and they will be able to help you in this, but otherwise, I'm sorry there isn't much that can be done.

I hope you can find a way to get this issue resolved. Sorry again for not being able to answer this for you.

Hello

Thanks for your help !
I thought so ! As I said in a previous post, the file is encrypted. And I know the password.
But what is the standard encryption ? Do you know a software for decrypt the file ?
I don't think so but I don't have an active support...
Thanks again.

Hello,

Sorry I don't. If it doesn't prompt when renaming and attempting to unzip the file, I wouldn't know how to do that.
