This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hello,

This has probably been asked before he is what i'm trying to do and hopefully someone could send me in the right direction.

I want to Boot a ghost session from DVD with the Ghost Image on the DVD as well like if i was installing Windows XP, booting up on the local computer and installing XP but in this case i want to boot up with a bootable ghost DVD and then restore the image to the machine. I know that network drivers won't be a problem because its local and i'm compressed the ghost image as well when i made a dump of it which is 4.7GB, i might have to get a bigger sized DVD.

Is any of this possible

Cheers
Jamie

Process

Jamie,

This is possible in Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 (Ghost version 11.5), after all the LiveUpdates are applied. To do this in that version, you would go through the Ghost Boot Wizard as normal, then on the next-to-last page, you would then choose to add your files. The size of you image would be an issue, however; either retake the image with higher compression (through command line switches, you can use the -z9 switch, the highest level of compression), or use multiple DVDs. In the case of multiple DVDs, just burn the first segment of the image (the *.GHO) to the boot DVD, then the remainder to another DVD just as files (not through the boot wizard).

Thank you,

Randy

Upograde

Jamie,

You would need to upgrade to be able to do this if you are using Ghost 7.5; that version will not support this operation. If you have a support contract, you should be entitled to upgrade for free.

Thank you,

Randy

Licensing

The version necessary is Ghost Solution Suite 2.5. You can download it via the license portal at https://licensing.symantec.com  if you ahve your login info. If not, call our licensing Dept at 1-888-727-8671. They can usually verify your info pretty quickly and get you what you need to upgrade.

Thank you,

Randy

Upgrading

Jamie,

If I recall correctly, the price per licenses is just under $40 for the smallest number of licenses. The price per license will decrease as the number purchased increases. You don't need to worry about server licenses, though; these are just for installing the console client on server-class machines. You can still Ghost server machines without those licenses via boot disk.

Thank you,

Randy
